Acoustic Consulting

Your Equipment Is Only as Good as the Room Letting It Breathe

Here’s the thing most people discover too late: acoustics aren’t an upgrade you add later. They’re a foundation. Buy the wrong room treatment — or skip it entirely — and no AVR firmware update or speaker swap will fix what you’re hearing.

Bad acoustics don’t always announce themselves dramatically. They show up as dialogue you need to rewind. Bass that feels thick and slow. A stereo image that refuses to lock in. These aren’t equipment problems. They’re room problems.

What a Professional Acoustic Analysis Actually Involves

We begin with measurement — using Room EQ Wizard to capture your room’s frequency response, decay times, and modal behaviour. This gives us a precise picture of what the room is doing, not what we assume it’s doing. Every room is different. A measurement-driven approach means the treatment plan is designed for your four walls, your ceiling height, your floor material.

From there, we recommend and design:

Bass trap placement to address low-frequency build-up (the most common problem in home theaters)
Absorption panels at first and second reflection points to clean up the midrange ddd sssssssss ddd
Diffusion elements to maintain a sense of space without deadening the room using measurement data
Subwoofer placement optimisation — often the single highest-impact change in a room

Calibration as the Final Step

Treatment shapes the room. Calibration fine-tunes the system within it. We use Dirac Live — one of the most sophisticated room correction platforms available — to apply digital correction after physical treatment is in place.

The order matters. Treating first, then correcting, produces results that are audibly superior to relying on correction alone. We won’t skip the physics and paper over it with DSP. That’s not a shortcut — it’s just a different kind of problem.

If you have an existing system that isn’t sounding the way you expected, acoustic consulting is often the answer you’ve been looking for. We offer standalone consulting engagements alongside our full installation work.

Not sure whether your room needs help? Describe your current setup to us — we’ll tell you honestly what we think, and whether a site visit makes sense.
